1. What can I expect on one of these ski tours?
You can expect a fully organised and hassle free holiday -
see for yourself - get your free copy of the European Ski Tour
DVD.
2. I am a single traveller
- will I need to pay single supplement on the ski tour?
All efforts will
be made to find a suitable person to share rooms with
you, to avoid having to pay single room surcharge, but
if by choice or circumstance a single room is used then
a single room supplement will be charged.
3. Do children pay the full rates, or are there discounts?
Depending on the age of the child, some of our hotels give various discount
rates for families where children are sharing rooms with
their parent. All resorts provide ski lift
discounts for children. Please contact
us for accurate costing for your family.
4. I am only a beginner, and I think the large slope of the Alps will be too difficult.
Some people believe that skiing overseas is for experts only.
That is not so. There are excellent beginners slopes
in the Alps and there is nothing we like better than to
introduce new people to the exhilarating sport of skiing.
Even the ski resorts appearing in the datelines
of World Cup reports, such as Kitzbühel, St. Anton, Wengen, Zermatt and Val d'Isère, all range from at
least 35% to as much as 60% of their total mountain area which is suitable for beginning and intermediate skiers.
When you consider how many square miles of mountainside these famous places have in their networks of lifts and runs,
you understand how much good skiing there really is for the less-experienced skier.
Our selected ski resorts are specifically chosen to cater for
all standards of skiers or boarders.
5. Is smoking allowed on the coaches? For the comfort of your fellow travellers, smoking and alcohol will not
be allowed on our coaches. However, if you do smoke,
there will be frequent comfort stops during our journeys.
6. Should I take lessons?
That is up to you. In Europe the ski schools offer the very highest standard of instruction
and if you like to improve your style, this is the place
to do it. Classes are conducted from Monday to Saturday
with beginners in class 1 and class 6 for the experts.
Go as a non-skier with just an interest;
go as a wobbly beginner; or go as an intermediate with a few tricks left to learn.
Europe has plenty of suitable terrain to give less-than-perfect skiers a super
holiday and to keep them very satisfied. The Europeans have so
much experience in making skiers out of just plain people, and
better skiers out of those who have had some exposure to the
sport, that they can certainly guide you, too, to new levels of
skill and enjoyment.
7. Can I hire ski equipment in our resorts?
Yes you can. However, if you intend to hire ski equipment in the resorts, then it may be wise to take your
own ski boots to avoid blisters from new boots and spoil your holiday.
It is also wise to check prices. Hiring your equipment in
Australia and taking it to Europe is often cheaper than hiring
in Europe...however, hiring in Europe means you have access to
local support for repairs and servicing.
8. What happens at the end of each day?
It could start with a Gluhwein or hot chocolate when skiing stops and
go until the early hours. In most resorts there
is dancing in discotheques, moonlit sleigh rides and numerous
bars, cafes and beer kellers to visit ranging from the
rustic to the luxurious, or maybe a folklore evening in
a cosy Inn with a log fire.
9. What else is there to do at these ski resorts?
All our selected ski resorts offer well prepared cross country
trails especially Davos which is a superb resort for
cross-country skiing. In addition there are many other winter
activities, such as tobogganing, ice skating, curling or you may
choose to attend an exciting ice hockey match.
Take time to explore the local shops, museums, customs -
sample the local cuisine, enjoy the local wines and beers, visit
nearby towns, buy souvenirs, and of course, take your camera
with you.
10.What do the ski tour escort do?
Your tour escorts will
assist you by giving advice on every aspect of your holiday,
facilitate all the transfer arrangements, but will remain unobtrusively in the background to avoid
any regimentation. You are able to call on the tour
escorts for advice when required, and they will ensure that your
holiday remains hassle free.
The Tour Escorts will introduce you to the mountains, and you may ski
with them as they explore different aspects of the mountain
terrain. However, each of the ski resorts have available local professional mountain guides, ski instructors and off piste guides (conditions permitting) should you wish to expand on and improve your skiing and boarding horizons.
11. How much luggage should I take?
Not too much luggage! Be a mix & match expert. You need warm winter clothes for
skiing and outdoor activities. For day & evening
wear, smart casual. Shorts are not acceptable in hotel
dining rooms
