Sun Peaks – British Columbia, Canada.
Sun Peaks in BC Canada is a ski resort hat is popular with families. Families love the well laid out slopes, the convenience of the ski-in ski-out village, the child minding and ski school facilities, and the many activities on offer for kids. It’s all too easy!
Sun Peaks has the second largest ski area in Canada (behind Whistler Ski Resort) with 1,728 hectares of skiable terrain. It has over 130 runs and 882 metres of vertical.
The Sun Peaks ski terrain is spread across multiple mountains. Sunny Sundance Mountain offers mellow groomed runs for beginners and intermediates. Mt Tod features advanced terrain in open bowls, challenging gladed terrain, and long groomers, whilst north facing Mt Morrisey also has thigh burning cruisers as well as a few steeps.
The terrain split for Sun Peaks is 10% beginner, 58% intermediate, and 32% advanced/expert, so Sun Peaks has terrain for all abilities, but intermediates in particular will love Sun Peaks and the abundance of fantastic groomed runs.
The ski and snowboard terrain is serviced by 11 lifts including 5 quad chairs, 1 triple chair, and 5 surface lifts.
On average Sun Peaks receives 6 metres (236 inches) of snow per season. This is less than various other Canadian ski resorts, but the powder is pretty dry.
Revelstoke – British Columbia, Canada.
Revelstoke ski resort is continuing to transform itself with the potential to become the biggest and best resort in Canada. Revelstoke BC has long been known by cat skiers and heli skiers for the legendary Selkirk powder that falls in abundance. Realising the potential for the perfect location where snow dumps, Revelstoke Mountain Resort opened in the season of 2007-08 and development continues to turn this powder paradise into a mega-resort.
For powder hounds, Revelstoke has the great advantage that the area offers resort skiing, cat skiing, and heli skiing (with either Selkirk Tangiers or Eagle Pass Heliskiing), so you can mix and match your powder adventure depending upon the conditions, and of course, your budget.
Revelstoke ski terrain is big…. big terrain, big pitch, big snowfall and big vertical. Revelstoke ski resort has 1,263 hectares of skiable terrain yet only 69 trails, which gives you an idea of the magnitude of the off-piste offerings. Revelstoke has the longest vertical in North America at 1,713 metres, so it’s easy for the thighs to get burnt out after two runs! And the gondola and detachable quad chair lifts are super fast so there’s little rest time.
The Revelstoke skiing terrain is largely below the treeline and consists of super long steep groomers, mellow groomed runs, moguls, glades, and tree skiing. Alpine bowl skiing is available in the North Bowl and a hike-to area above The Stoke chair.
With terrain split stats of 7% beginner, 45% intermediate and 48% advanced, it’s no great surprise that lots of hot skiers and boarders hang out at Revelstoke ski resort.
Revelstoke is renowned for getting lots of snow. Some of the Revelstoke heli skiing areas get a whopping 12-18 metres of powder on average per season, and the resort gets somewhere in the realm of 9-14 metres.
If you are considering cat or help skiing here, book early as available spots get taken up quickly.
