We spent New Year’s Eve in the air and saw in the new year taxiing to the terminal at Abu Dhabi wit
h the stewardess saying it is 5 minutes to 2015 and the captain eventually counting down to the new year.
So we arrived Zurich early on Thursday 1/1/15 after our flight from Sydney and felt not too bad. We immediately checked into our room, showered, then enjoyed a leisurely buffet breakfast. We then waited for Rodney and Amanda to arrive as well as Paul and Dee Dee.
Spent the morning exploring Rumlang – a very quiet village next to the airport with nothing happening on new years day. BUT – great to see fresh snow on the ground as the ski reports looked dismal. It looks like we might be in luck. Hung around the hotel and eventually had dinner at Valentino, a nearby restaurant.
Friday, 2/1/15 – official 1st day of the Europe ski holiday ski tour.
Helen & Brent arrived and so a small group had a leisurely day exploring Zurich. We caught the train from Rumlang to central Zurich, but missed the first one as we were working out how to buy a ticket from the vending machine.
Roamed around Zurich and it was fairly cold – lunch at the Central station restaurant, then back to hotel to meet the rest of the group who arrived during the day. The hotel had some fun organising the rooms for our group, but eventually all was sorted.
At 6:30, the group meet and greet session – Deane arrived not too late and then dinner, and I explained how the tour works.
