Sunday 4/1/15 – finally after travelling for so long (since Wednesday), we get to ski on the Europe ski holiday.  It snowed last night – about 10cm – weather forecast overcast is for more snow, but clearing by lunch.

As it turned out, the weather turned out fine and it cleared by early morning but very cold.

The day started with Paula coming out of hotel with two right gloves – obvious thong winner today.

Jakhobshorn Europe ski holidayAdam was not feeling too good after a long session with Rodney at the Club Hotel bar the night before.  He eventually bailed out mid morning feeling nauseous and had to go to bed with Eileen playing nursemaid.  As Rodney always says, skiing is an all round sport and you have to be able to handle the piste and the apres ski life together!!

Started with a walk from the hotel to the new Jakhobshorn gondola ( a CHF 23 m investment to replace the old one) and only just opened  a few weeks before we arrived.  The top of Jakhobshorn is either a steep drop into ungroomed piste or the track along to the main runs.  Poor Mel ( a boarder) found both these option uninviting, but never the less stuck at it.

Most people had cold fingers and toes, especially Dee Dee who had cold hands.

11:30 for early lunch inside gave all an opportunity to have a seat inside and warm up.  Lunch here was expensive, but as this essentially the only eating place on this mountain ….

Afternoon skiing at Bramabuel chairlift (also new – replacing the old t bar) where Brent showed off his mogul skills on the steep black while others skirted around the outside.  Day 1 completed, all pretty much satisfied and no injuries.

The last family to join the group arrived under their own transport arrangements, Daniel, Kylee, Ellie & Hamish.  Adam (who hopefully gets over his sore head) plans to ski with them on Monday at Jakhobshornto help them get orientated, with Kylee opting to have lessons before starting skiing.

So thong awards for today was Adam for bailing early after a big night on the turps with Paula a nominee for her gloves.
