Friday 9/1/15 – Last day to ski Davos and the end of the first week of the Europe Ski Tour – it goes too quick.  Time to start thinking about the next week in Lech and the new arrivals who will be joining us on this group ski holiday.

There is no plan today, so will see what the day brings.  Everybody is free to do whatever they like.  Some returned to their favourite ski area, some decided to have a break from skiing and did a day trip to the nearby St Moritz, other decided for a late start.

For me, it was ski Davos and started with Paula, Alan, Ning and myself going back to Jakhobshorn (haven’t been there since the first day) – Helen, Brent, Tom & Mel were doing a day trip to St Moritz, Rod & Amanda were going shopping while the others were skiing the run to Klosters.

Arriving at the top of Jakhobshorn, we encountered very flat light.  It wasn’t fog, but as bad as a white out.  So we decided to pull the plug after one run.  Paula going back to the hotel to rest her knee, Ning to try some cross country skiing, while Alan and myself decided to go to Rinerhorn where the light should be better.  We got back to mid station for the Gondola ride back do and the lifties were surprised to see a group returning so early.  We dropped Paula at the Club Hotel and as it happened, boarding the bus were David , Melinda and Paul all going to Rinerhorn.  So it was the 5 of us.  Skiing there was good – light was much better and the slopes were still in good condition with hardly another sole on slope – just wondering how they can make money here.  The runs that were being prepared earlier in the week were now open and once again we had it all to ourselves.

Today definitely had a last day feel about it as we were now thinking of the next bit of the tour.  We finished skiing early, returned hire skis, collected ski passes and retrieved the deposit, packed our  bags ready for tomorrow and then dinner.  The town was also preparing itself for the world economic forum due in a weeks time – so barriers were being delivered and set up, as well as an increased security presence, interspersed with the noise of Swiss air force jets flying overhead.

The thong stayed with Allan and Paula for another day as it was a dual award
